Africa Haiku on the Journey
It feels like nothing
Yields in this land
Until the Sweat pours
Note to Self: I was surprised when I embarked on my
ancestral healing journey in Africa, the land began to speak to
me in Haiku. Note - I had never written a Haiku in my life.
This one came to me after being in Ghana for many
months and witnessing the ingenuity of the people and how
hard they had to work for everything. There was much suffering, but much
resiliency and genius. I remember helping the fisher
men bring in their catch of the day. There was a line of fifteen of men
chanting, and pulling the rope attached to the net. I was placed in the line.
I chanted and pulled the line of the
fishing net with them. The sun was baking hot. I poured with sweat. I felt
an electrical wave of togetherness pulsate through the line. That moment
changed me. Waters, land, people brought the lesson of we are together.
A lesson that kept on showing its face in multi ways during my journey.
